55 years have passed since the day Turkey destroyed the area of Tilllyria with the bombardment of civilians by the Turkish Air Force.
In August 1964, the conflict between Greeks and Turks in Cyprus culminated in the Turkish Air Force bombarding of Tilllyria.
As a minimum tribute to all those “great” young people who offered their youth for their homeland, a memorial service was held today, Sunday, August 11, at the Church of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Eirini in Pachyammos.
The Divine Liturgy was presided by Bishop Georgios of Paphos, who preached the Divine Word in the Koinonikon cycle, interpreting today’s evangelical passage.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy the memorial service was held. The memorandum was addressed by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios.
Then a Trisagio was held by the Metropolitan of Paphos at the Monument to the Fallen men for the Cypriot freedom and wreaths were laid by officials and relatives.
